Yesterday, while studying for my ecology test I read something that really made me worry: by 2025 there will be 8 billion people on earth. And our ressources of potable water will be more than insufficent. Suddenly I didn’t feel so sleepy anymore. It made me wonder.. Are we all going to die?
I know this is far from being the first generation to ask this question. I mean now we have global warming and lack of ressources but before that there was the fear of a nuclear war, before that the fear of war itself… has it ever been different? Or do humans need the feel of fear to live?
But then something even worse hit me. It has always been our fault. ALWAYS. We are the ones making ourselves misserables and scared of everything, because we are the ones creating all the harmful and scary problems that happen everyday.
Lets take a person for example.. John. John is a really good person, really good looking and with a great heart. But even if people really love John, they take advantage of him for being so nice. And now John is exhausted.
He has donated all the organs he could donate, he has been treated like shit even if he never did anything wrong. People made them cut his hair, have tattoos, pierce himself. People punch John because they feel like, people like having John around when they are sick because he takes good care if them but they dont care if John gets sick too. Now John is dying and all that people do is complain and be sad for poor John’s bad luck.
Well HOW DO YOU EXPECT JOHN TO BE ALRIGHT AND NOT BE DYING OF EVERY DESEASE IMAGINABLE IF YOU HAD SUCKED ALL THE LIFE AND HEALTH OUT OF HIM? Well that is what is happening to earth.
And this is not only what we have done with our lovely planet… this is what we like to do in our everyday. We use people for our convenience without thinking about how they feel or what are their needs… and then we complain when people are always sad and depressive or when we see all the cruelty and crimes on the news.
Are we all going to die? YES. Do we still have a little time to make up for all the harm that we’ve done? Probably no.. but we have time to try, and make the best of the time we have left. We have time to stop and think about the others, to make a joke, to make other people happy because believe me it will make you even happier. We still have time to plant another tree and hope that even if its nothing compared to all the harm that we’ve caused.. it will make John feel a little better.
